Revenue Generating Project

Since our creation on the 04th of September 2008 we have been looking at various projects, however, SKDT lack the finances to progress many of these projects. In order to meet our objectives a source of income is required.

Renewable energy projects can provide a substantial source of income for a community. They are a significant step towards sustainability and many local projects could benefit from the funds, avoiding time consuming and unreliable grant applications being applied for.

Community renewables is becoming increasingly popular as communities look at becoming more sustainable and self reliant. Many of the ventures undertaken in Scotland are in remote rural or island communities; Tiree, Gigha, Fintry, Knoydart, Eigg, Sanday, Westray, and Foula have all established revenue generating projects and there is a plethora of community groups doing feasibility work, going through planning and applying for funding to get their own projects established. The cost of income generation projects over the last 10 years has increased significantly and is still steadily increasing, although the expertise in planning, installing and operating these schemes are more widely available.

At present SKDT are investigating several options for community renewables. However, our next goal is to carry out community consultation to find out if there is majority community support for progressing a community renewables project.
